Business Management 2026- Claims and Change Orders
This class explores the change order process from a subcontractor’s viewpoint and provides participants with hands on training in recognizing, scoping, pricing, and negotiating change orders. Contract risk management and preservation of rights in order to increase the chances of financial recovery during project execution. Since the most valued information for contract conflict resolution comes from those closest to the work, the basics of preparing that documentation and effectively translating the information will be discussed. The goal is to gain understanding and review examples of risky contract clauses, the process of claims management, the legalities of change order control, and preparation for lawsuits.
Instructor - Shaabini Alford
Shaabini is the Director at Maxim Consulting Group and is responsible for assessing, evaluating, and implementing client processes. Shaabini works with various sized construction firms to train, educate and inspire leaders. Having over 20 years’ experience, Shaabini has faced and conquered many difficult situations to a successful conclusion, specifically in jobsite crisis management, contract terms and conditions, and legal negotiations in multi-million dollar change order settlements. She is an operations expert and enjoys analyzing current business processes for areas of improvement and opportunity, such as: procurement, detailing, fabrication, field engagement, risk mitigation and team dynamics. She is skilled in building highly effective teams and improving their performance by documenting SOPs for precise and repeatable execution of work. She enjoys the challenge of taking on ugly projects and leading the project team to a successful and profitable end.
